Event Description

Marlay House
Wednesday 6th February 7pm

Kingstown - the first decade (1821-1831)- from green field to active
town When George IV departed from the Dunleary on 3rd September 1821
he left an unfinished harbour, with unfenced common land behind
it. Within a decade the area was transformed into the active town of
Kingstown with a population approaching 5,000, with streets, shops,
schools, hotels, chapels, and regular transport links to Dublin and
Britain. This talk describes some of the details of that transformation.
