Event Description

Join Aoife & Pat from Wicklow Willow for their series of workshops celebrating Bealtaine 2021.

In this online series of videos, you will learn about the customs and traditions associate with Bealtaine and May Day across Ireland, and how to forage and create you very own beautiful May Day Garland!

  • In the first video (available here), Pat will take us through the customs and traditions carried out in homes and villages to ward off evil, ensure good luck, and protect livestock & crops.
  • In number two (available here), Aoife will bring you on a foraging workshop in your locality to find suitable flowers and branches for your May Day Garland.
  • And in the final video workshop, Aoife will take you through the making of your wonderful Garland to hang on your door.
  • The series also includes an online resource pack, containing some lovely images - hand-drawn by Aoife - for you to print, colour and gift to family and friends. The pack also includes many useful and insightful links to find out more about our Bealtaine traditions.

Aoife's hand-drawn images are available at these links for you to print and colour: flowers, a hawthorn tree, and a house.

The foraging and making workshops require a secateurs, scissors, and string. Good footwear is advised and please be aware of uneven ground, nesting birds, and try to stay local.

We hope you enjoy making your May Day Garland!
