(Final two events will take place in the National Gallery & the Hugh Lane Gallery.)
The Modernist movement in Ireland was led by women artists, unlike elsewhere in Europe where male artists paved the way. This course will look at the modernists, the academic realists and those somewhere in between, examining their careers, influences and impact on the Irish art world and further afield. Starting with the traditionally accepted female pursuits in applied arts with progressive co-operatives like Dun Emer Industries, the work of such artists as the Yeats sisters, Nano Reid, and Eileen Gray will be examined, covering a vast array of styles and mediums.
