Richard Mc Cormick, President of the Maritime Institute of Ireland, will introduce the National Maritime Museum www.mariner.ie, situated in the historic 180-year-old Mariners Church opposite the dlr LexIcon in Dún Laoghaire’s Cultural Quarter. This unique Museum is awash with marine artefacts and a library where maritime history, genealogy, discovery and science intersect, attracting family historians, school children and culturally curious tourists alike. Run by volunteers and Community Employment staff, striving to provide interesting experiences to Irish and foreign visitors, the Museum is very much a dlr community resource, hosting lectures, cultural events, Civil and Humanist weddingsin an attractively restored Mariners Church steeped in two centuries of Dún Laoghaire’s rich maritime history.
